RTÉ to show Dundalk's crunch Champions League qualifier next week

The reigning Premier Division champions take on BATE Borisov.

RTÉ SPORT HAS confirmed it will broadcast Dundalk’s Uefa Champions League Second Qualifying Round second leg against FC BATE Borisov live from Oriel Park on RTÉ2 next Wednesday, 22 July.

Coverage will start at 7.30pm with the match being broadcast live at 7.45pm.

Stephen Kenny’s men’s hopes of qualifying for the third round are in the balance after they were beaten 2-1 away against the Belarusian side, David McMillan’s strike giving the reigning Premier Division champions a precious away goal.

It marks the first time in four years that the State broadcaster has shown a Champions League qualifier involving an Irish club.

Ryle Nugent, Group Head of Sport, RTÉ said:

“We are delighted to be able to bring live coverage of Dundalk’s decisive [game] against FC BATE Borisov to RTÉ2 next Wednesday.

“The UEFA Champions League is undoubtedly the premier club tournament in world and it is exciting to be able to show a fixture featuring the SSE Airtricity League champions who have a real chance of progressing to the third qualifying round.”
